
🍜Chinese New Year Buffet🍤
As mentioned in our previous post Residents within the Nursing Home have been working on an educational project on the Chinese New Year. This week we have been looking at Chinese foods.
We used the iPads and lap top to help us research this. Fiona, Mark, Heather, Louise, Bernadette, Lily and Gordon learnt some interesting facts including:
- Chinese noodles are a symbol of a long life and it is considered unlucky to cut up noodles.
- Using oranges in Chinese cooking is believed to bring good luck and happiness.
- Chinese dumplings symbolise wealth.
- Fish plays a large role in festive celebrations, the Chinese word for fish is “Yu”.
To finish off our project Chef Paul created a delicious Chinese buffet for us. We had some fortune cookies with our lunch but were surprised to find out that these weren’t Chinese, infact fortune cookies were created in America in 1914.
