Music and Memories at the Beeches Nursing Home
Music has the ability to bring people together, it is a wonderful connector and stimulates and enables residents within the Home to express themselves creatively. Recently we have been accessing M4D Radio – a group of 5 themed radio stations available 24 hrs a day 365 days a year, playing music that evokes memories.
M4D Radio is an excellent resource when planning activities for individuals who have Dementia however we have also found it invaluable to aid general reminiscence groups within the Home.
2 small groups of residents including: Karen, Desmond, Michael, Eamon, Pat and Fiona have been meeting to join in these Music and Reminiscence sessions. Using either the lap top or iPad residents were able to type in their year of birth to listen to the decade where their musical memories were made. Our favourite old time hits included:
Connie Francis ” Who’s Sorry Now”
Cliff Richards “Congratulations”
Perry Como “Magic Moments”
Jimmy Cliff “You can get it if you really want”
Doris Day “Move Over Darling”
Residents loved listening to and singing along with their favourite artists, and these groups have really supported their emotional health particularly within lockdown where our emotions have been a bit overwhelming and more difficult to manage.
