Healthy Eating
At a recent planning session Karen said she would like to join in with some type of healthy eating activity, so we gathered up our resources and looked at how to keep ourselves healthy.
We looked at the Eat Well Plate, portion sizes, the importance of drinking between 6-8 glasses of water per day, benefits of exercise and how we all should be eating 5 portions of fruit/vegetables per day.
Karen, David, Fiona and Gordon were surprised to find out that a portion could mean – 1 banana, 2 kiwis or 3 tablespoons of carrots.
Eamon told the group he liked fruit and his favourites were bananas, oranges and grapes. Mark told us some things we do which are not good for our bodies, including eating too many sweets/chocolate or drinking too many sugary drinks.
By the end of the session we had all decided that for a happy life we needed to have a healthy body and a healthy mind. Jenny talked about World Mental Health Day (10th Oct) and how it is so important especially at the present time to really take time for ourselves this could be relaxing, listening to our favourite music, chatting to staff if we feel upset/anxious or joining in with some mindfulness. We decided to dedicate 1 afternoon each week to doing a mindfulness activity.
