Keeping Active
With the current situation regarding Covid-19 it has not been possible for Disability Sports N.I to run their normal range of indoor sports however they have been working hard to keep people active and connected through a range of socially distanced outdoor activities, online exercises, videos, blogs and podcasts.
Within the Beeches Nursing Home we have been trying to ensure residents remain as active as possible over lockdown, so alongside our daily walking groups (in our garden/patio area) we have been utilising the seated mobility exercises. this is a three part series suitable for wheelchair users, people with limited mobility and those with health conditions.
Colleen Connolly (Inclusive Sport and Leisure Officer with Disability Sport N.I) facilitates these sessions. We try to do these each morning with a small number of residents who are all socially distanced. We start off with the Low Intensity Seated Mobility Session where we join in gentle exercises and stretches that help improve our mobility, flexibility and range of motion.
We then join in with the Low Intensity Arm work out. We really enjoy these exercises which have the purpose of improving our overall health and well being; both physically and mentally.
