N.I SCIENCE FESTIVAL 2021
N. I Science Festival made it’s return for a bumper 2 week event (15th-28th February) and with over 120 events across the 14 days Residents within the Beeches Nursing Home had plenty to keep them busy. The Festival featured a mixture of unforgettable experiences across N.I including: Virtual Talks and On-Line Interactive Workshops.
One of our favourite events was the “Science In Society – on the Farm” with Dr Jonny Hanson. Jonny took us on a virtual tour of N.Ireland’s first Community owned farm (Jubilee Farm in Larne) and talked us through the science behind the farm. We learnt about soil, composting, growing vegetable and wildlife around the farm however residents favourite part was the livestock episode where we were able to see lots of pigs and goats. Residents then completed some farming worksheets and learnt more about the animals and how to look after them and their babies.
We also enjoyed the science workshops run by Scientific Sue who showed us how to make some magical potions:
- Day 1 – Freezing Spell
- Day 2 – Vanishing spell
